Sunreef Yachts unveiled the new Sunreef Eco range of yachts in 2019, with integrated solar panels in the hulls and superstructure.

These luxury cruising boats can be equipped with a hybrid drive system, 300kw of lithium batteries and can provide up to 24 hours of silent running in complete luxury. In-house designed and manufactured by the shipyard solar panels can be combined with any yacht’s surface and with their full size and shape customisation, you can easily adapt them to any structure on board.

Wind turbines are a stable source of power and produce power from the wind to keep the yacht’s battery bank charged. Unlike solar panels, wind turbines can produce power in all weather conditions during the day but also throughout the night and in cloudy weather. The turbines are normally placed in the top of the yacht to maximise conversion of wind power to electricity.

The range also uses non-toxic, silicon-based bottom paint to provide protection against marine growth while offering low surface roughness to significantly reduce drag which improves overall performance and the energy efficiency every sustainable yacht should aim for.

With the industry’s lightest panels, smart engineering and ultra-efficient lithium battery packs, Sunreef Yachts Eco catamarans find the perfect balance of energy production and consumption.

Sunreef Yachts recently announced the Sunreef Supreme 70 Eco as the latest addition to the Eco range. With a dynamic and futuristic hull design, the Supreme 70 Eco combines superyacht DNA with the latest green technology to offer a sustainable e-motoring experience in total comfort and luxury.

The design brief of the Sunreef Supreme 70 Eco aims at maximum green power generation with large flat surfaces entirely covered in the shipyard’s patented composite-integrated solar panels, delivering up to 30kWp. The solar power obtained is used both for the appliances on board and the electric propulsion.

The range is dedicated to using eco-responsible materials without compromising on luxury so look to reduce the use of animal skins by offering a variety of natural fabrics and alternatives to genuine leather. The Eco catamarans can also be fitted with reclaimed teak, salvaged from old houses or boats for example. Other alternatives include the use of reusable and recyclable non pvc-based synthetic teak. Sourcing green materials to be uses on deck can be challenging so we are impressed by the dedication to find alternatives for this range.

The shipyard’s range of Power eco-friendly yachts can be fitted with high-performance kites to combine the advantages of eco motoring with wind propulsion. Frequently used for towing large container ships, kites are an extremely powerful support for leisure crafts. Sunreef Yachts’ motor yachts equipped with kites enjoy oceanic range, massive fuel savings, more visibility and safety.

Owners of the Eco Power might also decide to add wind turbines to the yacht to maximise use of natural and sustainable energy sources. The combination of both solar panels and wind turbines means the Eco Power is equipped to generate energy in most weather conditions.
